Social Skills
Devon’s social skills group teaches kids who struggle with common social interactions learn and refine their conversational, friendship and problem-solving skills. Kids can learn important skills in this group that they will use for the rest of their lives, including, but not limited to greeting others, starting and holding conversations, manners, grounding techniques, and asking for help. Childhood is such a pivotal time in people’s lives and most children could benefit from a social skills group, however, this group is especially geared toward kids who aren’t developing social skills as quickly or effectively as their peers. This can include children with ADHD, nonverbal learning disabilities, those who may have trouble picking up on social cues or those with other learning or behavioral issues. This group follows a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) format which focuses on helping patients understand the thoughts and feelings behind their compulsions and behaviors.
Devon is holding a condensed version of this group this July in preparation for the upcoming school year. This session will be focused on students rising into grades three through five.
